Renshi Manuel Agosto
Renshi Manuel Agosto (Manny to his friends) started his martial arts journey nearly 40 years ago in 1980. He began with Shotokan Karate under Sensei Toyotaro Miyazaki. After high school he joined the U.S. Army where her was exposed to other martial arts such as: Boxing, Muay Thai Boxing, Judo, Jujutsu, and Tang Soo Do. Upon his discharge he enrolled in college where he joined the college Karate Club and competed on the Karate Team for John Jay College. The college club was run by Sensei Al Gotay, Judan (10th Degree), an early pioneer of Karate with USA Goju Association. Eventually Renshi Agosto earned the rank of Sandan (3rd degree).
Renshi Agosto moved to Florida in 1997, where he met and began training under Kyoshi Jed Oyasato, Nanadan (7th Degree) Oyata Shin Shu Ho Ryu. Through Sensei Oyasato, Manny was introduced to Taika Seiyu Oyata, Head of the Ryu Te Association and Founder of Oyata Shin Shu Ho Ryu. Sensei Agosto trained diligently over the years, obtaining rank in Ryu Te. In 2012, at the insistence of his teacher Oyasato-san, Sensei Manny Agosto, tested and obtained the rank of Godan (5th Degree) under Taika Oyata’s Ryu Te Association. Upon the death of his instructor Sensei Jed Oyasato in 2014, Sensei Agosto took over the training group in South Florida and founded the Shisakan Dojo (House of the Lion) in memory of his instructor. Today Sensei Agosto, is one of the founding members of the Zensekai Karate Kobujitsu Renmei (ZKKR) under its founder, Tasshi Greg Lindquist. Sensei Agosto represents ZKKR in Florida and continues to teach and share with other senior Karate Instructors from other organizations in South Florida.
Renshi Agosto has travelled and trained as a guest instructor in various Karate Schools throughout the United States and several countries.
Most recently Renshi Agosto travelled to Okinawa to experience the culture and train in the homeland of Karate.
In 2018, while accompanying Greg Lindquist Hanshi, and other members of the Zenseikai Karate Kobujitsu Renmei, Manny was promoted to the the rank of Rokudan (6th Degree) and bestowed the teaching title of Renshi.
